Kolkata: Election Commission of India holds review meeting for WB Assembly Election 2016
Kolkata, Dec 10 (IBNS): A team of the Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nasim Zaidi, on Thursday hosted a review meeting in Kolkata for upcoming West Bengal Assembly Election, which will be conducted in the middle of 2016.
District Magistrates (DM) and Superintendents of Police (SP) and Police Commissioners of all districts of West Bengal and delegations from all political parties met the CEC here.
After the meeting was concluded, Nadim Zaidi said ar a press conference here: "We conducted the meeting here to understand the level of preparation and to assess the law and order situation of the state. Members from all political parties met us and demanded a good security arrangement to conduct a free, fair and peaceful election."
"I have assured them that the election will be free, fare and peaceful. Central armed forces will be deployed in every booth. There will be 2-3 layer security arrangements for the voters that they can go to polling stations from their residences without threats and vote," he said.
In this election, engagement of the youth is ECI's special focus.
"According to the latest census reports, there are 30 lakh youths in the state. We have directed our state election machinery to ensure the engagement of youths in the upcoming assembly election," Zaidi said.
The ECI has introduced three initiatives- Subidha, Samadhan and Sugam- for WB Assembly Election 2016.
"We would like to introduce three initiatives for upcoming election. These initiatives including Subidha, Samadhan and Sugam will help political parties, voters and the owners of vehicles, which will be used during election, respectively," Nasim Zaidi further added.
The ECI hopes that the upcoming election will be free and fair.
"Polling officers will also be provided a good security during election. Our smart observers, who will come from outside West Bengal, will handle the entire security force deployment. We hope, the upcoming election in this state will be free, fair, peaceful and highly participated," CEC Zaidi concluded.
