Kolkata flyover tragedy: Three arrested

Kolkata, Apr 1 (IBNS) At least three people have been arrested on Friday in connection with the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Kolkata's Girish Park area which has left at least 24 killed, media reports said.

According to reports, all the three have been arrested from Kolkata.

They are officials of the Hyderabad-based IVRCL, the company which was building the flyover.

The under-construction flyover collapsed on Thursday.

The death toll in the mishap has touched 24.

"One more body has been recovered now, The death toll stands at 24," a senior police official told IBNS.

More than 80 were injured and admitted in various hospitals.

A close circuit camera footage showed people, cars, buses, auto rickshaws and hawkers being crushed when the flyover collapsed on them.

Locals rushed to help and rescue people who were trapped under the debris.

K Panduranga Rao of the Hyderabad-based IVRCL termed the incident as "an 'act of God', triggering widespread outrage.

Several people have been pulled out from the rubble while the injured were undergoing treatment in  hospitals.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has been engaged in rescue operations along with National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF).
