Kolkata, Mar 17 (IBNS): A middle aged woman suspectedly committed suicide by jumping off a 17th floor apartment at South City Residential Complex under Jadavpur Police Station limits in south Kolkata on Saturday afternoon.

According to reports, the 47-year-old woman jumped to death from her flat's balcony at around 12:30 pm.

A local police official told IBNS that the woman has been identified as Sonali Aikat (47) who was a chartered accountant.

"Sonali Aikat lived in a flat, which is located on the 17th floor of South City Residency's tower 3, with her maid," the police official said.

"She was found dead in the housing society compound, underneath her flat's balcony. Prima facie indicates that she committed suicide," the official added.

Local police, however, have started investigation into the matter and quizzed Sonali Aikat's maid.

"We found several books on suicide from her room and her Facebook posts are indicating that she was suffering from depression," a senior police official told IBNS.

"We are looking into the matter and quizzing the maid of the dead woman while her family members have also been called for questioning. CCTV footage of the housing are also being examined," he added.
