Lawyers will not be exempted from odd-even rule in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 30 (IBNS): The Delhi High Court on Wednesday turned down the plea of lawyers for exemption from the odd-even rule for private cars in the national capital pointing out that doctors have not been excused from the trial, media reports said.
The court also asked the Arvind Kejriwal government to explain why women and two-wheelers are exempted from the restrictions.

From January 1, the  vehicles with number plates ending with an odd number will be allowed to ply one day and those ending with an even number the next day.

Transport Minister Gopal Rai had said odd-numbered cars would be allowed on odd dates, like January 1, 3 and 5, and even-numbered cars on even dates.

On Sundays, all private cars will be allowed to ply on roads.

Women drivers, those with children below 12, CNG cars and a number of 'VIPs' except Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be exempted from the odd-even formula for the first 15 days of the New Year.

However, this rule is not applicable on public transport.

The Delhi government earlier said that it hoped to cut down vehicular pollution in the state by half with this measure.

Kejriwal had also  promised to scrap the system if people find it hard to follow it in the first 15 days.
