Maharashtra: Man gets 5 yrs RI for abetting partner's suicide

Thane, Mar 2 (UNI/IBNS) A 27-year-old man from Diva of the district was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment for abetting the suicide of his live-in partner.

The accused, Rakesh Baban Kumbhar was also fined Rs 10,000.

Kumbhar was already married and has two children, but he was living with the victim separately.

Later, he had a doubt on her character, following which he was mentally harassing her.

The lawyer Mhatre appearing for the prosecution told the court that on November 27, 2016 the duo quarreled and the accused abused her, as a result the victim got annoyed and doused herself in kerosene and set herself on fire.

The victim died while being treated at a hospital on November 30, 2016.
