Mamata instructs officials to curb processions with weapons on Vijaya Dashami

Kolkata, Sep 5 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed the police to show zero tolerance if any right wing organization tries to take out procession with weapons or arms on Vijaya Dashami, which is scheduled to be organized in the state on Sept 30, sources said.

According to reports, during an administrative meeting at state secretariat at Nabanna on Monday, Mamata Banejree directed state police's DG Surajit Kar Purakayastha and other senior officials not to allow any Vijaya Dashami procession with arms.

"We have inputs that processions with weapons or arms would be held in West Bengal on Vijaya Dashami as a part of 'astra-puja'," Mamata Banerjee said.

"Weapons look good in the hands of goddess Durga. We won't allow such rallies to maintain peace and communal harmony in the state," Banerjee added.

Weeks ago Mamata Banerjee was slammed by several right wing outfits after she announced a restriction on the immersion of goddess Durga for Muharram celebration in Bengal.

The state government has already declared a curb on Durga idol immersion on Bijoya Dashami, Sept 30, after 6 pm. and on Ekadashi (Oct 1) whole day for Muharram processions.

According to source inputs, few right wing groups and Durga Puja organizers are planning to move to the Calcutta High Court to challenge state's announcement.
