Indian PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the nation on Independence Day from the ramparts of Red Fort when he said the government is trying to restore peace in strife-torn Manipur.

He said that there has been a period of unrest and violence in Manipur and news of attacks on the dignity of women.

He said people of Manipur are maintaining peace for sometime and asked that the process of peace be carried forward.

“The state and the central governments are working together to solve those problems and will continue to do so,” he said.

Modi, who was seen wearing a Rajasthani-styled turban, said the 'Demography, Democracy and Diversity' will fulfil the dream of the nation.

Speaking on the measures taken by his government to ensure the country moves on the path of development, Modi said: "To ensure development in a true sense and to strengthen the biggest unit of democracy, we formed a separate dedicated Ministry, Ministry of Co-operation."

"Our mission is to reach the poorest of the poor, to address their concerns, and to ensure 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi'!" he said.

He raised the issue of inflation and said: " Today, inflation has taken a toll on the economies across the world."

"But notably, India's efforts in the direction of containing inflation have been successful when compared to earlier times," Modi said.

Modi 'guaranteed' that his government will place India in the Top-3 economies in the world in the next five years.

India will vote to elect a new Lok Sabha in 2024.

Narendra Modi and his BJP will complete 10 years in power next year since it won the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 by defeating the former Congress-led UPA government.

Modi said: "Our goal is to strengthen the economy, empower the people, and make India a developed country!"
