Papua New Guinea prime minister James Marape, who touched Narendra Modi's feet as he arrived in his country recently, has created a new Twitter account to thank the Indian PM.

" Today I created my account on Twitter to thank the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi ji very much for coming to a small country like Papua New Guinea," Marape tweeted.

Modi visited the country on the second leg of his three-nation tour.

He is currently visiting Australia in the last leg of his journey.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Monday conferred Papua New Guinea’s highest civilian honour, the Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu (GCL), by PNG Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae.

Prime Minister Modi said he is humbled by the gesture, and that the award is a great recognition of India and the accomplishments of the Indian people.

“Humbled by the gesture of Papua New Guinea of conferring me with the Companion of the Order of Logohu. Gratitude to Governor General Sir Bob Dadae for presenting the award. This is a great recognition of India and the accomplishments of our people.”
