PM Modi inaugurates first phase of Ahmedabad metro; Cong not happy

Ahmedabad, Mar 4 (IBNS): With the General Elections round the corner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the first phase of Ahmedabad metro project here.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also present at the inauguration ceremony.

Modi, who is from Gujarat, is a former Chief Minister of the state.

The Election Commission (EC) is yet to announce the dates of the Lok Sabha polls.

The polls will decide whether Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will get a straight second term in power.

However, Congress, which is the main opposition party, has linked the delay in EC's announcement of poll dates with Modi's inauguration.

Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel tweeted, "Is the Election Commission waiting for the Prime Minister’s “official” travel programs to conclude before announcing dates for General Elections?"

"Using govt functions as an excuse for political rallies, flooding TV/radio and print with political ads, It is seems that EC is giving the government a long rope to campaign till the last moment using public money," Patel said in a follow up tweet.
