Punjab: Five held for ATM theft

Patiala, Mar 22 (UNI) Five people were arrested and Rs 5.16 lakh was recovered from them, in connection with the various ATM thefts in Punjab, Patiala police said.

According to SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu, the gang was part of a private company deputed to load cash into ATMs.

The accused were identified as Rajinder Singh, Balwinder Singh, Dharampal, Deepak Rai and Deepak Tiwari and also recovered Rs 5.16 lakh from them along with tools used to cut the ATM.

''On interrogation, Rajinder, the mastermind behind the theft, said they had been working with CMS Info System for years and were aware of the working of ATMs. They have been siphoning out money from ATMs from 2014'', the SSP said.

On March 17 the SBI ATM near Samania Gate had been broken open and an FIR was lodged at Kotwali police station.
