Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day over NRC issue, ruckus denies Rajnath Singh to make statement

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IBNS): The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday amid repeated disruptions as Opposition members, particularly the Trinamool Congress continued ruckus over the Assam NRC issue denying Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to make a statement on the subject.

The issue continued to reverberate Parliament for the third consecutive day.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkiah Naidu adjourned the House for the day soon after it reassembled at 2 pm following an earlier adjournment as Trinamool MPs trooped into the well shouting against the deletion of more than four million names from the complete updated National Register of Citizens.

Reprimanding the agitating MPs, Naidu said they did not let the Home Minister speak nor was BJP President Amit Shah allowed to conclude his Tuesday's speech.

He said both of them will speak in the House on Thursday.

Media reports said  West Bengal Chief Minister and TrinamoCongress chief Mamata Banerjee, who is in the race for national leadership, met senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel and Telugu Desam Party leaders inside Parliament.

She is also likely to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi and other prominent political leaders to discuss the issue.

Earlier in the day, MPs of Opposition parties today staged a protest outside Parliament against Assam NRC. Armed with placards against the NRC, leaders from the TMC, SP RJD, TDP, AAP, BSP and JD(S) demanded that the government bring in changes in the NRC.

They alleged by bringing in the NRC the ruling party was trying to divide the people
