Sachin Pilot decides to 'forgive and forget' on Congress prez Kharge's advice ahead of Rajasthan assembly polls

Jaipur: Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot, on Saturday, maintained that he had resolved his differences with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on the advice of party president Mallikarjun Kharge.

He stated that collective leadership was the preferred approach moving forward towards the Assembly elections.

Pilot's statement followed the crucial strategy meeting of the party for the Rajasthan polls.

After the meeting, the Congress asserted on Thursday that victory in the Rajasthan assembly elections could be achieved through unity, while also warning of strict action against indiscipline and speaking outside the party's platform.

The party also hinted that it may not announce a chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming polls.

Pilot mentioned that Kharge advised him to "forgive and forget" and move forward.

On Saturday, Pilot downplayed his longstanding differences with Gehlot and said that the Rajasthan Chief Minister was only trying to take along everyone with him, something which he himself tried to do when he was the Rajasthan Congress chief.

He further said that Gehlot was older and had more experience than him. He was trying to create a balance while shouldering heavy responsibilities.

Pilot added that both he and Gehlot understand that a little back and forth is not a big issue and that the party and the people are above any individual.

Since the Congress party came into power in 2018, there has been an ongoing power struggle between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot.

The tensions reached a peak in 2020 when Pilot staged a rebellion against the Gehlot government, leading to his removal from the positions of the party's state unit president and deputy chief minister.
