Shelter home rapes shameful: Nitish Kumar

Patna, Aug 3 (IBNS): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said the rape and torture of more than 30 minor girls at a Government-run shelter home was "shameful" and promised giving a tough lesson to the culprits.

"What has happened has shamed us. It is a sin. Such cases should not happen again. Those responsible for this should be taught a lesson," media reports quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, the State Government has reportedly cracked down on the organisations run by the prime accused in the case - Brajesh Thakur- blacklisting all of them.

Altogether 30 organisations, including three newspapers and other shelter homes, owned by Brajesh Thakur have been blacklisted and funds disbursement has been stopped, media reports said.

The Muzaffarpur shelter home, where more than 30 girls were raped, was also owned by Thakur.

The Muzaffarpur incident has sent a shockwave across the country while encouraging the opposition in Bihar to launch a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar Government.

The attack is often led mainly by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, who has accused Kumar of trying to shield the accused for their alleged links with the ruling Janata Dal-United.

Kumar has recently directed the state police to hand over the investigation into the case to the CBI.
