Smriti Irani slams Priyanka Gandhi for 'disrespecting' Lal Bahadur Shastri

| @indiablooms | Mar 21, 2019, at 01:22 pm

New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI): A big row has been sparked off after Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra used a garland given to her to honour the bust of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri during her visit to Uttar Pradesh.

"Apan gale ki utaran....Shastri ji ke apman par taali bajayeke (The garland given to her was used to put on Lal Bahadur Shastri's bust. This was insult but they clapped hands)," BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani tweeted.

Irani's contention has been endorsed by another BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh, a grandson of Shastri.

"The Gandhi-Vadra family has never shown respect to Shastriji. But this gesture not only has pained us, it also reflects poorly of someone's culture," Singh, also a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, wrote on the micro blogging site.
