Sonia didn't allow me to become PM in 1991: Sharad Pawar in new book

| | Dec 12, 2015, at 06:36 pm
New Delhi, Dec 12 (IBNS) NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, whose book 'Life on My Terms- From the Grassroots to the Corridors of Powers', was released on Friday by the President of India, coinciding with his 75th birthday on Thursday, revealed how the Congess denied him a top spot to govern India.

Pawar's book alleged that Sonia Gandhi, the supremo of the Congress party, did not allow Pawar to become the Prime Minister in 1991, further stating that she treats the partly like 'family fiefdom'.

Pawar was also unsparing of ex Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son Rajiv. He wrote that the two had identical weaknesses and apart from being gullible, they jumped into conclusion rather quickly.

Pawar also addressed the issue of  longstanding feud between Sonia and himself.

He said that Sonia would do exactly opposite of what he suggested and often times changed personnel for a certain job at the last minute just because he was thought to be a close aide of Pawar.

Ironically, the revelation comes a day after Sonia Gandhi heaped lavish praises on Pawar.

On his birthday, Sonia was quoted in media as saying, "His friendships with his political opponents and adversaries are legendary. In the modern language of IT, his networking skills are formidable and those skills are much needed when politics takes on a bitter partisan flavour, as it does every now and then. He is a politician through and through in the best sense of that term."
