Speeding train runs over women devotees in Bihar, five dead

| @indiablooms | Oct 23, 2017, at 06:30 pm
Patna, Oct 23 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Five women devotees were killed and three others injured after being run over by a passenger train in Bihar on Monday.

The incident took place near Adalpur railway crossing in Munger district.

Reports said the women devotees were crossing the railway track to reach Ganga river for a holy bath in view of Chhath festival when a speeding local intercity express happened to come on the track, killing five on the spot.

Angry villagers later blocked the railway tracks, disrupting railway traffic as many trains remained stranded at various railway stations.

“Due to fog, the victims failed to see the speeding train coming on the line,” an official told the local media.

The local administration has announced a compensation of Rs 400,000 to each victim family.
