Suspected militant killed in Kashmir encounter

Srinagar, Dec 25 (IBNS) A suspected militant was killed in a brief encounter with security forces in North Kashmir’s Bandipora Town on Thursday evening.

According to a Police officer,a group of heavily armed militants lobbed hand grenade on a  search party leading to a brief encounter at  Ajas Village near North Kashmir's Bandipora Town.

He further said that, during gun fight one local (Lashkar-i-Toiba group) militant was found dead at the encounter site on Friday morning.

The slain militant has been identified as Umais Ahmad Sheikh from Pulwama district in South Kashmir, police said.

Meanwhile, Curfew has been  imposed in Pulwama town following protests against the killing of the local militant.

Omais, an official said, had joined militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in June earlier this year.

A heavy contingent of police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across the town.
