Telengana CM KCR calls for National Front, Mamata backs

New Delhi, Mar 5 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has backed her Telegana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao's call for a non BJP-Congress National Front ahead of the 2019 General Election, media reports said.

Banerjee reportedly told Rao that her party TMC will back the idea of the front to bring about a qualitative change in national politics.

Apart from Banerjee, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has also lent support to Rao.

Rao on Saturday said he is ready to play a role in the national politics and called for an alternative front.

He was quoted by NDTV, "People are looking for change. Can we expect something new to happen if Congress comes to power after BJP? It can be a third front or any front. Discussions are going on. There is no secret about it."

"I am asking the Centre to increase support price for crops by Rs. 500, so farmers' distress can be addressed. Will they do it? They won't. Think Telangana should show the way. Our schemes for farmers are progressive. We can give direction to the country," he added.

Rao has also stated the call for the front is not against Prime Minister Narenrdra Modi but the slow progress of the country.

Rao's call has once again stirred the national politics as days ago, BJP's ally partner TDP had expressed displeasure over the Union Budget 2018.

TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had said the NDA government's Union Budget deprived his state.

Raising concerns for the saffron brigade, other BJP ally Shiv Sena has said it will go solo in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

However, according to BJP sources, the party is highly confident after its sweeping win in Tripura and establishing itself as a dominant party in the northeastern belt.
