Threat SMS to TMC MP Sudip Banerjee: Sender gets interim bail
Kolkata, Dec 24 (IBNS): A local court in Kolkata on Thursday granted interim bail to Dipanjan Mitra, who was arrested for allegedly sending threat-SMSes to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sudip Banerjee.
TMC Lok Sabha MP Sudip Banerjee on Tuesday claimed that he had received few SMSes with death threats from a number and raised the issue in the Parliament too.
After starting probe into the matter, the Kolkata Police on Wednesday nabbed one web designer- Dipanjan Mitra (32)- from Kasba area in south Kolkata and charged him under IPC sections 506 (Criminal intimidation) and 120-B (Criminal conspiracy).
He was produced to a sessions court in Kolkata and granted interim bail on Thursday.
However, investigators did not find any political link in this case, sources said.
"Yesterday we booked web designer Dipanjan Mitra from his residence at Sarat Bose Garden Road in south Kolkata's Kasba area for sending threat-SMSes to MP Sudip Banerjee and seized his cell-phone too. After interrogating him, we have come to know that, Dipanjan Mitra is a freelance photographer also and his father Asok Mitra knows Sudip Banerjee very well. During night-long interrogation, he confessed that few years ago he requested Sudip Banerjee to manage a job for him. As TMC MP did not give him job, Dipanjan threatened him on Tuesday. We did not find any political connection with Dipanjan Mitra. The incident might be the fallout of a personal grudge," one senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.
