Three arrested while smuggling Covid vaccines, medicines to Myanmar

Imphal/IBNS: Three persons have been arrested for  allegedly trying to smuggle Covid vaccines and other medicines to Myanmar, Manipur Police said.

They have been sent to police custody by a local court till Friday, police said.

The accused have been identified as Mohammad Feroz Khan (30), Imran Khan (22) and Shubham Kumar Anand (23), according to an NDTV report.

On Sunday, the trio was arrested while allegedly trying to smuggle huge quantities of Covishield vaccine vials, Remdesivir, and other medicines in a vehicle, a police official told NDTV.

Mohammad Feroz Khan and  Imran Khan are residents of Manipur's capital, Imphal while Shubham is from Bihar's Katihar district, police added.

"The police were checking vehicles near the Heijingang Super Market along National Highway 2 when the three men were arrested with the medicines and their vehicle and the contraband were seized," the official was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The arrested men have confessed that they were smuggling the medicines to Myanmar through the Moreh border.

Police said further probe is on to nab the other members of the racket and find out the source of the seized medicines.
