Kolkata/IBNS: A tribal woman was pulled out of her house, stripped and paraded naked by some villagers allegedly as a punishment for extra-marital affair, said media reports.

The incident took place in Kumargram police circle of Alipurduar district on June 9. The entire incident was filmed and it came to light only last Sunday when the video surfaced on social media.

According to an NDTV report, local sources said the woman had left her husband some six months ago allegedly after she got involved in an extramarital affair.

Last week she returned home and on Wednesday night some locals barged into her home, dragged her out and stripped her naked. She was then showered with filthy abuse and paraded across the village, it said.

Following the incident, she disappeared and no one informed the police till the video surfaced on social media.

The police then tracked her down to her parents home in Assam with the help of her husband and was brought back, the report said.

After counselling, she filed a first information report in the presence of her husband, and named 11 people who assaulted her. Five of them are still absconding, the report added.

Among other sections of IPC, police has charged the accused with Section 307 pertaining to attempt to murder.

Police said the incident did not result from a Kangaroo court but was a spontaneous attack by some youth belonging to the same tribe as the woman.
