Thane, Mar 16 (UNI/IBNS) The District Rural Police on Saturday arrested two persons and allegedly seized from their possession 25 kg contraband drugs worth Rs 3 crore near a hotel located in the Bhayandar suburb of this district.

The duo accused have been identified as Yogesh Shah (50) and Sadev Jamadar (38),both Mumbai residents, who were trying to smuggle banned drug,Ephedrine.
Shah is said to be a cloth merchant whereas the other accused Jamadar is reported to be a driver.

Talking to mediapersons here, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Dr Shivaji Rathod stated that based on a tip-off, the cops from the Navghar Police Station kept a strict vigil near the hotel since Friday night.

In the wee hours of Saturday, as both the accused arrived in an auto-rickshaw, the patrolling sleuths swung into action and nabbed them, said Dr Rathod.
The Navghar Police Station has booked the duo under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985.

Further investigation is underway to unravel the source from where the drugs were purchased and whether the duo have any linkages with the international drug smugglers, informed Dr Rathod.
