UP boat capsize: Death toll rises to 22, Yogi declares Rs 2 lakh compensation package

Meerut, Sep 14 (IBNS): The toll in the Uttar Pradesh boat capsize incident has risen to 22, reports said.

Earlier it was reported that at least 18 people were feared dead as a boat capsized in Yamuna river in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district on Thursday morning.

Condoling the loss, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation package of Rs 2 lakh  to the next of the kin of each deceased.

The boat was carrying 50 people, who were heading towards Haryana, when tragedy befell.

Meanwhile, following the incident, villagers staged a demonstration on Delhi-Saharanpur highway.

According to reports, 12 people have been rescued so far.

Rescue teams have reached the spot.

The death toll is expected to rise.
