Kolkata/Nadia, Feb 16 (IBNS): Acting on a tip off, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s anti-corruption unit on Thursday morning arrested a senior official of Indian state-owned telecommunications company- Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)- from Krishnanagar in Nadia district of West Bengal, officials said.

According to reports, Nadia District Telecom Director X. Anthony Raj was caught red-handed by a CBI team from his office while he was allegedly taking 10,000 rupees as bribe from a contractor.

Few days earlier, contractor Shibu Halder lodged a complaint to the anti-corruption cell of CBI that the telecom director was demanding 20,000 rupees as bribe to sign a bill.

CBI investigators on Thursday conducted a sudden raid at Nadia district BSNL office, Nakhsatra Bhaban, at Krishnanagar and made the arrest.

"We have held a government official for taking bribes and later carried out raid at his apartment, from where 1,26,000 rupees cash has been seized," a CBI official told IBNS.

CBI, however, has started probe into the matter and are currently interrogating the telecom officer.
