Malda/West Bengal/IBNS: A youth has been arrested for allegedly murdering four members of his own family and burying their bodies at Old 16 Miles area under Kaliachak Police Station limits in West Bengal's Malda district, officials said on Saturday.

Sources in the Malda district police said that based on a complaint filed by one Arif Mohammad, his younger brother, Asif Mohammad, had been detained on Friday late night for allegedly killing four family members.

"During interrogation Asif Mohammad confessed that he had murdered his father Zawad Ali, mother Ira Bibi, sister Arifa Khatun and grandmother Alekjaan Khatun on Feb 28 night and buried their bodies under a godown besides his house," a police official told IBNS.

"We have taken him into our custody for further investigation," the official said.

Later on Saturday morning, police, in presence of a local magistrate, recovered skeletal remains of the four bodies from the godown and sent those for autopsy.

District police sources said that Asif Mohammad was a history-sheeter and there were charges of cyber crime against him.

Officials said that multiple electronic gadgets, including CCTV cameras, mobile phones and a laptop, and one lakh rupees in cash were recovered from Asif's room.

Locals claimed that Asif Mohammad used to isolate himself inside his room, did not come out of his house usually and was ordering food almost regularly for the last four months.

Local police have initiated a probe into the matter and they are currently interrogating arrested Asif Mohammad.

"Motive behind the crime is still not clear and we are also quizzing complainant Arif Mohammad to know where he was since February and why did he complain after nearly four months," a police officer said.
