Parno Mittrah on Suzie Q: It was exciting to play a glamorous role
Actress Parno Mittrah plays a glamorous role for a change in Chandan Roy Sanyal's directorial debut Suzie Q, which was screened at the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) earlier this month. IBNS correspondent Souvik Ghosh gets in touch with Parno for a quick chat on the film...
Q. How was the experience of working with a first-time director?
A. I have worked with many new and first-time directors in my career. I was aware of Chandan's thoughts since I knew him for a very long time. When I read the script, I got to know about Chandan's complicated thoughts (laughs).

Q. How was getting a chance to play a glamorous role after playing rural women on big screens for a long time?
A. I was quite excited because this role was very glamorous. It was the most glamorous as it could be in an independent cinema. Moreover, it was poles apart from the kinds of roles I usually play on screen. It's always exciting for an actor to keep playing different kinds of roles.

Q. How was the journey to get into the psyche of this character?
A. It was a bit complicated because I had to play somebody who can see ghosts. That is not normal. She has issues which had to keep in mind while portraying her. She has mental disorders. So those complications had to be kept subtle. But it was fun for me as an actor to explore such a character.
Q. How do you see casting of women in films now?
A. Yes, earlier women aged 40 were offered mothers' roles. Women around that age previously couldn't get cast. We are breaking those lines now. We are trying to move forward and progress as a cinema nationally. Who wonders about the age of Tabu while she aces on the big screens!

Q. How do you feel about making a Hindi debut?
A. I am very excited. Moreover, I was very happy that my debut Hindi film was screened at the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). I am happy and grateful to the jury of the festival.
