Abhishek Verma clinches gold, seals Olympic quota

New Delhi, Apr 27 (UNI) Indian shooter Abhishek Verma on Saturday won the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol event at the ISSF World Cup being held in Beijing.

With his brilliant performance in the Shooting World Cup final, he also secured a fifth Olympic quota for India.

Earlier, Divyansh Panwar, Anjum Moudgil, Apurvi Chandela and Saurabh Choudhary secured India Olympic spots.

Verma, 29, scored 585 points in qualification and 242.7 points in the final taking home the yellow metal.

Meanwhile, Russia's Artem Chernousov scored 586 points in qualification and 240.4 points in the final winning silver while Korea’s Seungwoo Han won bronze with 582 points in qualification and 220.0 points in the final.

He made his World Cup debut in New Delhi. The shooter however, failed to make the cut in the final at home.

However, on Saturday, Abhishek shot a total of 585 points to qualify for the final at the fourth spot.

Verma who had won a bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol event during his India debut at the Asian Games has little international exposure but is proving to be one of the finest shooters on the circuit.

Earlier, on Friday youngster shooter Divyansh Panwar clinched a silver in the 10-metre men's air rifle event and also secured a quota for 2020 Tokyo Olympic.
