Bengal Water Sports team to compete in 2019 China International Dragon Boat Race

Kolkata/IBNS: A 15-member team from city-based Bengal Water Sports (BWS)- led by veteran oarsman Shakil Ahmed- left here early this morning to take part at the 2019 China International Dragon Boar Race to be held at Dian Lake in Kunming, China between Nov 1 and 3.

Other memebrs of the team are Rajarshi Giri, Khusi Agarwal, Gautam Bairagi, Afridi Ali, Karan Agarwal, Swastika Basu, Zhuoma Jinan, Ruqayia Swaleha, Gautam Bairagi, Abhoy Agarwal, Siladtya Mondal, Vibhor Kejriwal (all paddlers), Yashvi Chaudhari (drmmer) and Ishika Das (helmsman).

Speaking before the departure, Shakil, who is also the coach of the team, informed that they had practiced on the BWS’ own Dragon Bpoat at the Eco Park water body in New Town for a number of days.

The team also include five paddlers who have earlier represented the Indian team at the International Dragon Boat Race Championship held in Thailand during August last where it finished at 26th position out of total 60 countries.

"It is a mixed team event and we hope we would be able to  put up a good show," Shakil said.
