Champions Trophy 2017: India thrash Bangladesh by nine wickets, reach final

Birmingham, June 15 (IBNS): In the second semi final of the tournament, India thrashed Bangladesh by nine wickets to reach the final of the Champions Trophy on Thursday.

Chasing a total of 265, India had a clinical approach and scored the necessary runs with almost ten overs in hand.

In form opening pair, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, gave their team a good start of 87 runs for the first wicket.

Though Dhawan got out at 46, Sharma partnered skipper Virat Kohli to take the team to the winning score.

Sharma hit a ton and remained unbeaten at 123 from 129 balls. He has hit 15 fours and a six in his innings.

Kohli, who played the winning shot, missed his century by four runs. He scored not out 96 from just 78 balls.

In the comprehensive chase by India, Bangladesh bowlers were seen to be helpless and could not manage to get any break through other than Dhawan's wicket.

Mashrafe Mortaza was the bowler who dismissed Dhawan, giving away 29 runs in eight overs.

Earlier, losing the toss and coming out to bat, Bangladesh scored 264/7 in 50 overs.

Despite losing early wickets in the power play, Tamim Iqbal and Mishfiqur Rahim put up a 123 runs partnership for the third wicket, which pushed the Bangla boys to a comfort zone.

Tamim and Rahim scored 70 and 61 respectively. It was a surprising move by the Indian captain Virat Kohli to hand over the ball to Kedav Jadhav, who gave the breakthrough to the team by dismissing Tamim, when the third wicket partnership was going well.

Though Bangladesh was looking good to get closer to 300, Jasprit Bumrah picked couple of wickets at the crucial time, which helped India to pull things back.

Later down the innings, Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza's quick 30 pushed them to cross 250 mark.

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Kedar Jadhav shared two wickets each.

India will face Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday.
