Charith Asalanka hits unbeaten 80 as Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by five wickets in T20 World Cup clash

Sharjah: Charith Asalanka led from the front as he smashed unbeaten 80 to help Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by five wickets in a T20 World Cup clash here on Sunday.

After restricting Bangladesh to 171 for the loss four wickets, Sri Lanka reached 172 runs by losing five wickets with seven balls to spare.

Charith Asalanka hammered five boundaries and sixes in his knock.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa added 53 crucial runs at the end.to help Sri Lanka reach the winning target.

He hit three boundaries and three sixes in his knock.

Shakib Al Hasan and Nasum Ahmed picked up two wickets each in the clash for Bangladesh.

Mohammad Naim (62) and Mushfiqur Rahim  (57*) scored fifties as Bangladesh posted 171 runs for the loss of four wickets against Sri Lanka in a World T20 match here on Sunday.

Rahim hammered five boundaries and two sixes in the innings to help reach a competitive score against the former champions.

Naim hit six boundaries in the knock.

Sri Lanka bowlers Chamika Karunaratne, Binura Fernando and Lahiru Kumara picked up a wicket in the match.

Both the teams reached the Super 12 stage after passing the qualifying stage.
