CSK's Imran Tahik strikes 4/27, restricts KKR to 161

Kolkata, April 14 (IBNS): Some fine bowling by spinner Imran Tahir of Chennai Super King, who bagged four wickets conceding 27 runs in his four over spell, restricted  hosts Kolkata Knight Riders to 161 for 8 wickets in their stipulated 20 overs in Sunday's IPL match at Eden Gardens here.

Coming to bowl as the last bowler for CSK, Tahir bagged the valuable wickets of N. Rana, Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn and Andre Russell before the hosts could pile up a huge total.

KKR, who lost their last outing here against Delhi Capitals on April 12, would  been in a much worse state but for a gutsy 82  by opener Chris Lynn.

With a packed Sunday stadium watching, KKR, who were put to bat after CSK won the toss and decided to field, started flamboyantly.

Lynn, who joined the playing eleven after missing the last match against Delhi Capitals, did most of the scoring. The opening pair added 38 runs before off-colour Sunil Naraine was caught by Faf du Plessis off Mitchell Santner in the fifth over.

After the exit of  Naraine, Rana joined Lynn and the pair batted confidently and added 41 runs in the second wicket partnership. The pair was looking set to make a big score but Imran Tahir, who was introduced as the fifth bowler, brought an end to their partnership as Rana gave a catch to du Plessis at long off after scoring 21.

While Lynn held on to one end scored runs hitting both medium pacers and spinners alike all around the ground, wickets kept falling at the other end. While Uthappa scored a duck falling to the guile of Tahir, skipper Dinesh Karthik was caught by du Plessis at long off after making 18.

Tahir who was going great guns struck twice in his third over when he bagged the wickets of Chris Lynn and Andre Russell. Lynn finally fell after playing a great innings. He was caught by Shardul Thakur off Tahir after scoring 82 playing 51 balls and hitting seven boundaries and six sixes.

The biggest blow to KKR came when Andre Russell, from whom much was expected, also failed to judge a sharper delivery from Tahir and  gave a catch to substitute Dhruv Joshi and making 10 with one sixer and a boundary.
