Dominic Thiem beats Alexander Zverev to clinch US Open title

New York: Austrian Tennis player Dominic Thiem put up a strong show to defeat  Alexander Zverev in a nervy five-setter and clinch the US Open title here on Sunday.

This is the Austrian's first Grand Slam title victory.

He defeated Thiem by 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (8/6).

 The match lasted for 4hour 2minutes.  

"It was tough to stay there and to still believe, but I did," Thiem was quoted as saying by US Open website in his post-match press conference. "It's a Slam final...the belief was always there."
