Fans urge Dhoni to return to Test cricket following India's poor performance against England

In a five-match Test series, India are already down 0-2 against England.

After a narrow loss by 31 runs in the first Test match in Birmingham, India's headache grew further as Kohli's men were outplayed by England in the Lord's Test by an innings and 159 runs.

Urging Dhoni to return to Test cricket, Abhishek tweeted, "Comeback @msdhoni"

Twitter user with name Prasanna said: "Comeback from retirement."

Prateek Verma seems to be missing Dhoni behind the stumps. Verma tweeted, "Will You get convinced to make a comeback in test cricket? Please! We are in desperate need of your mind behind the wickets in England! @msdhoni Faith in MSD!"

Twitter user with name Karthik babu said: "I really miss @msdhoni in England test series . #INDvsENG #ENGvIND . Miss you legend."

Vikas Prajapati tweeted, "Plz mahi come back in test just play one test against england then india will know that valu of u sir plz come back"

After India's twin defeats, several former cricketers slammed the national team for lack of fighting spirit.

VVS Laxman tweeted: "Caught in unfavourable conditions, not reading what the opposition threw saw India lose the Lord’s Test tamely without showing a fight. Hopefully lessons are learnt quickly and the rest of the batsman start applying themselves going forward."

Virender Sehwag said: "Very poor from India. While we all want to stand by our team and support them when they don’t do well, going down without a fight is very disappointing to watch. Hope they have the confidence and mental strength to comeback from this."

Mohammad Kaif took to social media to hit out at the Indian cricketers for their unimpressive performance on field.

In an early tweet after India's defeat, he said: "Lack of fight has been the most disappointing aspect. This is really painful to watch. No batsman exudes any confidence."

The former right-handed batsman even accused the cricketers of not learning from past mistakes.

Kaif further tweeted, "India lasted 82 overs across 2 innings. They not learning from mistakes has been very disappointing to watch. Thoroughly outplayed in all departments in this one."

In the second Test, India survived for only 82 overs in two innings, scoring 107 and 130 respectively.

In the first Test, India had a poor show with bat expect Kohli, who went on to score 200 runs in two innings including a ton. India eventually lost the Birmingham Test by 31 runs.

Kohli on Tuesday posted an emotional message on social media for his fans after his team was criticised.

Kohli urged fans not to "give up" their hope on the team.

"Sometimes we win and other times we learn. You never give up on us and we promise to never give up on you either. Onwards and upwards," the skipper in his message.
