London, Sept 7 (IBNS): In a show of respect, the Indian team gave former England skipper Alastair Cook, who is playing last Test match of his career, a guard of honour as he stepped out to play on the first day of the fifth match here on Friday.

England captain Joe Root earlier won the toss and opted to bat first.

The crowd gave a rousing reception to Cook as he moved out fo the pavilion and stepped into the park to play one his last innings in international cricket.

Cook and fellow opener Keaton Jennings walked down the park and a special moment was created when the Indian team lined up to applaud a glorious career.

Kohli congratulated the ex-captain of the side.

Cook is playing his 161 Test match.

He has scored over 12,000 runs in Test matches.

He will, however, continue to play for Essex in the English County.

England have already taken a series winning 3-1 lead in the series.
