Ind vs Aus: Murali Vijay departs for 82, India 193 for loss of 2 wickets
At lunch, India put on 193 runs for the loss of two wickets, by virtue of a 102 runs partnership between Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara.
Murali Vijay, who played a sheet anchor role, scored 82 off 183 balls.
Though runs were not easy to come by, the Indian pair held the fort, surviving some nervy moments and confident appeals from the visiting side.
In the end, they managed to score 73 runs but lost a wicket.
Vijay, who looked in fine form and was inching towards the three-figure mark, stepped out to a ball from Steven O'Keefe, only to miss it and being stumped by Aussie wicket-keeper Matthew Wade.
The Tamilian batsman played 183 balls for his knock, hitting 10 boundaries and a six.
At the crease is Cheteshwar Pujara, who is unbeaten on 40 and will resume batting with skipper Virat Kohli, who survived an injury scare earlier on day one.
Pujara, who has had a fabulous home season, has faced 139 balls thus far in this innings.
The Saurashtra lad has dispatched four of those to the fence.
For Australia, Pat Cummins has been the most economical bowler.
Making a comeback into the Test side after a long gap, Cummins accounted for KL Rahul yesterday, as he got one to rise above the batsman's chest, forcing the Karnataka batsman to glove one straight to the wicket-keeper.
India still trail by 258 runs and will look to reduce the deficit when play resumes in the second session.
