Ind vs Aus: Pujara steals show with 11th hundred, India trail by 91 runs

Ranchi, Mar 18 (IBNS): The day three of the third Test match in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar trophy, played between India and Australia, belonged to Cheteshwar Pujara, who enthralled the Indian faithfuls with a dogged century, the 11th of his Test career, here on Saturday.

At the end of day's play, the Indian batsmen have put on 360 runs for the loss of six wickets, and trail the visiting side by 91 runs.

Pujara, who is unbeaten on 130 runs, has faced 328 balls, hitting 17 boundaries.

Even with wickets tumbling at the other end, the Saurashtra batsman held fort, anchoring the Indian innings, following the departure of opener Murali Vijay.

Earlier, Vijay and Pujara put up a partnership of 102 runs for the second wicket, until the former threw his wicket away.

Vijay, who danced down the track to a Steven O'Keefe delivery, only to miss it and get stumped, departed for a well made 82 runs.

His 183-ball innings was encrusted with 10 fours and a six.

Following Vijay's departure, Pujara formed several small partnerships worth 32, 51, 46 and 8 with Indian skipper Virat Kohli, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, middle order batsman Karun Nair and ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin respectively.

It was another failure for both the Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane, who departed for 6 and 14 respectively.

If Virat was undone by a full-length delivery from Pat Cummins, Rahane fell for a short pitched ball from the tall Aussie pacer.

Cummins later accounted for Ashwin too, before Josh Hazlewood sent Nair's stumps cartwheeling.

The present partnership between Pujara and Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha (18) is worth 32 runs, as the duo will look to add more to the tally and surpass the Aussie total.
