New Delhi, Aug 25 (IBNS): India's badminton sensation PV Sindhu created a new chapter in history when she defeated her Japanese opponent Nozomi Okuhara to win the women’s singles event of the World Championship in Basel on Sunday.

This was PV Sindhu's first-ever world championship title.

In the previous two outings in the world championships finals, PV Sindhu had to digest defeats and in one case it was her current opponent Okuhara.

Sindhu took a remarkable eight-point lead in the first game and then continued her dominance in the game.

Her victory was appreciated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind.

"The stupendously talented @Pvsindhu1akes India proud again! ongratulations to her for winning the Gold at the BWF World Championships. The passion and dedication with which she’s pursued badminton is inspiring. PV Sindhu’s success will inspire generations of players," Modi tweeted.
