Injured Steve Smith cuts short CPL campaign
Sydney, Sept 3 (IBNS): Banned Australian cricketer Steve Smith was forced to cut short his Caribbean Premier League campaign after he suffered a grade one abdominal tear.
In the ongoing edition of the CPL, Smith played seven matches for the Tridents.
He missed the clash against St Lucia Stars.
Barbados Tridents coach Robin Singh was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia website: "He had a slight tear and he had to go back, so it’s a really unfortunate situation."
Captain Jason Holder said: "He's pulled an abdominal muscle so he's out for the rest of the tournament."
Steve Smith was suspended from playing first-class cricket for a year because of his role in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa earlier this year.
He was also removed as the skipper of the squad.
