Mumbai, Apr 9 (IBNS) Playing their first game in IPL, the Mahendra Singh Dhoni led Rising Pune Supergiants, mauled defending champions Mumbai Indians in their own backyard to win match by nine wickets on Saturday.

The Mumbai supporters were in for a rude shock as the latest entrant in this year's edition turned the heat on, sending four of the host's top order batsmen to the pavilion inside the first six overs.

Ishant Sharma (2), RP Singh (1) and Mitchell Marsh (2) wreaked havoc upfront to pile in the agonies for the Mumbai side, as they were further reduced to 51 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

With the Mumbai top order failing to lead the way, as several batsmen failed to reach the double-figure run mark, Harbhajan Singh emerged an unlikely hero for them.

Singh had spend his time in the dugout in his latest stint with the national side, but in his first real chance, the Punjab lad smashed 7 fours and a six to score 45 runs off 30 balls.

He was also involved in a 25-run unbeaten partnership with Mitchell McClenaghan, where the latter contributed just a brace.

Singh's innings was instrumental in carrying his team over the 120-run mark as they set the Supergiants a modest target of 122 runs.

Chasing the score, Faf du Plessis and Ajinkya made light of the chase as they duo added 78 runs for the opening stand.

du Plessis (34) perished while attempting to sweep Harbhajan for a four, ending up playing the shot early and dragging the ball onto his stumps.

Kevin Pietersen, who walked in next, smashed the off spinner for two massive sixes as they chased the score with ease.

Rahane hit 3 sixes and 7 fours in his innings of 66 runs, which took him 42 balls. he was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Pietersen remained unbeaten at 21.
