IPL: MI edge past RCB in a close fought encounter

Mumbai, May 1 (IBNS): Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma's unbeaten knock of 56 runs helped his side overcome the Royal Challengers Bangalore side by five wickets here on Monday.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, the RCB managed 162 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their stipulated 20 overs.

In reply, Mumbai Indian's managed the winning runs with a ball to spare.

Earlier, the RCB innings was bolstered by AB de Villiers' breezy knock of 43 runs.

The South African hit three fours and an equal number of sixes in his 27-ball knock.

The other significant contributor was Pawan Negi, who hit three sixes enroute to his innings of 35 runs off 23 balls.

For the hosts, Mitchell McMlenaghan picked up three wickets, followed by two scalps from Krunal Pandya and one each by Jasprit Bumrah and Karn Sharma.

Negi also fared well with the ball, picking up two wickets for his side.

Among the Mumbai batsmen, Jos Buttler, Nitish Rana and Kieron Pollard scored 33, 27 and 17 runs respectively.

Rohit Sharma was adjudged the Man of the Match for his exploits with the bat.
