Melbourne, Jan 26 (IBNS):  Japan's Naomi Osaka created history as the Asian clinched the Australian Open title to win back-to-back Grand Slams and become the new world number one.

She defeated Czech Petra Kvitova in the final of the tournament.

The Asian defeated her opponent 7-6 (7-2) 5-7 6-4.

"Erm, hello. Sorry, public speaking isn't my strong point so I hope I can get through this," she told BBC.

"I read notes before this but I still forgot what I was meant to say. Thank you everyone, I am really honoured to have played in this final," she said.

The match kept swinging as Petra also put up a strong show in the match against the Asian.

Osaka is the first Asian player now to become world number one in the WTA rankings.

She replaces Simona Halep after her 48 weeks journey as numero uno player in the world.
