Kapil Dev celebrates his 57th birthday

Mumbai, Jan 6 (IBNS) Former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev celebrates his 57th birthday on Wednesday.

Kapil is a world cup winning captain and one of the greatest all rounders from India.

Nicknamed as the Haryana Hurricane, Kapil bowled at a decent pace for an Indian fast bowler.

He was also a handy middle order batman, and his 175 not out against the Zimbabwe in 1983 World Cup was the highest ODI score at that point of time. That innings was crucial as it allowed India to travel further in the knockout rounds and they finished as the winner.

Kapil and his men fought against the mighty West Indies and lifted the trophy much to the delight of the Indian fans who thought it would be an one sided affair after the Indian team was bowled out for 183 runs.

An ICC Hall of Fame Inductee, Kapil Dev picked up 434 Test wickets, also a record at that point of time, which stands no longer today.

Kapil also served as India's cricket coach for a brief period of time in 1999, but was largely unsuccessful and his stint was marked by controversy.
