Not commercial or religious: IPL chief backs Dhoni over Army Insignia use on gloves

New Delhi, Jun 7 (IBNS): After the International Council Cricket (ICC) asked Mahendra Singh Dhoni to remove Army Insignia from his sporting gloves, Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla on Friday said the former skipper didn't use anything which is "commercical or religious".

Addressing media, Shukla said: "The Army Insignia is not commercial or religious. Dhoni didn't violate any rules."

Dhoni had sported the gloves with Army Insignia in India's first match against South Africa in the World Cup 2019.

“Two manufacturers’ logos are permitted on each wicket-keeping glove. No other visible logos other than the manufacturers’ logos are allowed,” Claire Furlong, the ICC General Manager — Strategic Communications, told The Indian Express.

“We have asked for it to be removed. (It’s a) breach of regulations. No penalty,” Furlong said.

Incidentally Dhoni, who had led India to 2011 World Cup victory, is a Territorial Army officer in the Parachute Regiment.

Indian Twitter users have appreciated Dhoni for wearing the gloves.

Infact, #DhoniKeepTheGlove is currently trending on the social media website.
