Islamabad, July 5 (IBNS): Pakistan has appointed Sarfraz Ahmed as the captain of the national Test side.

Ahmed played a crucial role in helping Pakistan beat India to win the ICC Champion Trophy last month.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan was quoted saying by Geo News: "I take this opportunity to announce Ahmed as our Test captain in addition to one-day and Twenty20 captain."

"The 30-year-old will lead Pakistan in the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, likely to be held on the neutral venue of the United Arab Emirates in October," GeoNews reported.

Ahmed is already the skipper of the limited overs side.
