Sharapova lifts Madrid Open title

Madrid, May 11 (IBNS): Russian Tennis icon Maria Sharapova defeated Simona Halep of Romania in the women's single final of the Madrid Open to lift the title here on Sunday.

Coming from behind, Sharapova defeated her opponent by  1-6 6-2 6-3.

Halep  ruled the first set as she beat the former world number one quite confortably int he opener.

Sharapova, however, came back strongly in the second and third sets and won them.

Sharapova later tweeted: " What a week!!! We don't take anything for granted."
