Terror attacks hit London: ICC gives top priority to security

Dubai, June 4(IBNS): The ICC on Sunday said security remained a top priority following the militant attacks which hit London on Saturday.

"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by what has happened in London overnight. The ICC and ECB continue to place safety and security at the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup this summer as the highest priority," the ICC said in a statement.

"Following last night’s incident all team hotels went into lockdown and teams, match officials and staff were all quickly accounted for. The enhanced security around venues implemented following the Manchester attack remains in place, this includes significantly enhanced police and security presence for today’s match," rad the statement.

"We operate on advice from our Tournament Security Directorate - in conjunction with the ECB and relevant police and security authorities - to ensure that we can deliver a safe and secure event. We will continue to work with authorities over the coming hours and days and review our security in line with the threat levels," the ICC said.

"The security situation has been very much front and centre of our preparations and we constantly review our procedures to guarantee they are as effective as possible to keep everyone safe. We do not disclose our security details as a matter of policy," it said.

India and Pakistan are fighting it out on the field in a Champions Trophy clash on Sunday.

In a terror attack in London again, at least six people were killed on Saturday night while three of the suspected attackers who wore fake explosive vests to scare away police an ploughed a car into pedestrians were shot dead by police, said UK police.

The incidents occurred at London Bridge and Borough Market when in one of the attacks a white van ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge at about 10.08 pm, said reports.

The suspects reportedly also stabbed people and a police officer after jumping out of the van.

More than 30 people were injured.

London's Metropolitan Police confirmed six deaths.
