Virat Kohli, other cricketers wish Yuvraj Singh on his glorious career as he retires from international cricket

With Yuvraj's retirement, an era in Indian cricket history ended which had witnessed the rise of a new India under the leadership of former skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Kohli said Yuvraj gifted the nation many memories and victories.

"Congratulations on a wonderful career playing for the country paji. You gave us so many memories and victories and I wish you the best for life and everything ahead. Absolute champion. @YUVSTRONG12," Kohli tweeted.

Yuvraj had put up heroic show in the 2007 World T20 and 2011 World Cup which were won by India under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who had played with Yuvraj for several years, said: "Players will come and go,but players like @YUVSTRONG12 are very rare to find. Gone through many difficult times but thrashed disease,thrashed bowlers & won hearts. Inspired so many people with his fight & will-power. Wish you the best in life,Yuvi #YuvrajSingh. Best wishes always."

Ex-Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif, who along with Yuvraj made the fielding sensation of India in early 2000, tweeted: "One of the greatest match-winners in the history of the game,a fighter who built an extraordinary career through difficult challenges & came out a winner every time-We all are so proud of you #YuvrajSingh , u can be very proud of what u have you done for our country @YUVSTRONG12."

Former cricketer VVS Laxman said: " It’s been an absolute pleasure playing with Yuvi. You will go down as one of the greatest players in the history of the game. You have been an inspiration to us with your resilience,determination & above all the love & passion you showed towards the game. Good luck @YUVSTRONG12 !"

After fighting for a spot in the national team for years, Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday.

Singh announced his retirement by thanking all his family members and teammates while holding a press conference here.

"I took the decision a year ago. I was sure that 2019 IPL would be my last tournament," he said. "I was not getting opportunities much as well,"

However, the south-paw said he will continue to play T20 cricket with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s permission.

One of the sharpest fielder of "Team India", Singh was the architect of the men-in-blue's 2011 World Cup win. He was declared the man of the tournament.

Under captain Sourav Ganguly, Singh made his international debut against Kenya in 2000. He soon emerged as one of the key players in Ganguly's team. He was also a part of Mahendra Singh Dhoni's 2007 T20 World Cup winning team.He had hammered six sixers in an over during a match against England. Yuvraj remained a sensation for the nation with his batting heroics.

After the 2011 World Cup, the middle order batsman was diagnosed with disease cancer and were out of the sport for quite long time.

After successfully battling cancer, Singh made a comeback to international cricket in 2013 against Australia. Except a few good innings, his career never happened to be same as before.

In ODI career, Singh scored 8,701 runs and picked 111 wickets in 304 matches. He scored 1,177 runs in 58 T20I matches.

However, Singh expressed his sadness over his limited appearance in Test cricket. He scored 1,900 runs in 40 Tests for India.
