Virat's masterclass steer India home against NZ
India chased down the score with 10 balls to spare.
Virat, who was dropped earlier by Ross Taylor at the slips, remained unbeaten and starred in two crucial partnerships with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Manish Pandey.
Virat and Dhoni, who promoted himself up the order. stitched together a 151-run partnership for the third wicket, setting a platform for Pandey, who walked in next to bat.
The Virat-Pandey unbeaten partnership added 97 runs in 77 balls to take their team home.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was also a tad unlucky to get out after a fine knock of 80 runs, in the process completing 9000 ODI runs.
His 91-ball knock was studded with six fours and three sixes.
Virat, his deputy, however notched up his 26th ODI hundred, and completed 3000 ODI runs on home soil.
His innings consisted of 16 fours and a six.
Pandey remained unbeaten at 28 runs, hitting 3 fours.
Earlier, MSD won the toss and asked the Kiwis to bat first.
The Black Caps had a brisk opening partnership of 46 runs before Martin Guptill (27) was trapped in front by Umesh Yadav, who picked up 3 wickets.
Tom Latham (61) held fort as he lost partners at the other end.
Latham was also involved in a 73-run partnership with Ross Taylor (44), before the latter was stumped by Dhoni off Amit Mishra.
Mishra later had Luke Ronchi stumped too as the Kiwis witnessed a dramatic slump.
From 153 for 2, New Zealand were reduced to 199 for 8, three of those picked up by part timer Kedar Jadhav.
New Zealand were however boosted by Jimmy Neesham's (57) innings, who forged a 84-run partnership with Matt Henry (39) for the ninth wicket.
Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets, as the Kiwis were bowled out in the final over.
Virat was adjudged the Player of the match for his match winning knock.
