Afghan government bans motorcycles in Kabul

| @indiablooms | Jun 28, 2021, at 11:34 pm

Authorities in Afghanistan have put a temporary ban on motorcycles in Kabul province, including in the capital area, without revealing the purpose behind it, reports Ariana News of Afghanistan.

“All motorcycles are banned on the streets of Kabul city and in the province until further notice,” the Ministry of Interior said in a statement released on Monday morning. The ban will be applicable both on licensed and unlicensed motorbikes.

“Realizing that there will be a temporary problem for some of our dear compatriots, there is a demand for full cooperation with the security forces in this regard,” Tariq Arian, the ministry’s spokesperson, was quoted as saying by Ariana News.

He said any motorcycle operating on roads will be seized by police.

The ban comes at a time when the security situation around Kabul is deteriorating. The ministry, however, didn’t reveal any reason behind the move, but it could be possible due to the increasing use of motorcycles by insurgents to make hit-and-run killings.
