Kabul: A helicopter crashed Saturday in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, killing three people, during a Taliban training exercise, media reports said.

Reuters reported that the Taliban was trying to fly a Black Hawk helicopter, abandoned by the US forces when it withdrew from the country in August 2021.

"An American Black Hawk helicopter, which was for training, crashed due to a technical problem inside the campus of the National Defence University," said the Taliban government's Ministry of Defence spokesperson Enaytullah Khowrazmi, the Reuters report said.

Five people were also injured in the mishap, he added.

Taliban has taken control of some of the US -made aircraft after they seized the country just over a year ago, said the report.

However, it remains unclear how many of them are operational as the US forces deliberately destroyed some of them when they left.

Also, some of the aircraft were flown by the Afghan forces to central Asian nations.
